Kennen Sie „Batman Begins“? In einer Szene wird der übermenschliche Actionheld gezeigt, wie er als kleiner Junge in einen Brunnen fällt, in dem Fledermäuse auf ihn warten. Er ist vielleicht zehn und verkraftet diese Schock nie, auch zwanzig Jahre später nicht. Kindheitserlebnisse prägen uns oft für das gesamte Leben. Es kann etwas Subtiles sein, wie die erste Erfahrung mit Rosenkohl, der uns zu bitter schmeckt und wir ihn daraufhin nie wieder anrühren oder ein Foto eines Flugzeugabsturzes, das wir sehen und als Reaktion auf dieses uns nie mehr in ein Flugzeug setzen. So banal das klingt, einem Mensch, der uns bei der ersten Begegnung durch eine Bemerkung negativ auffällt, wird es schwer fallen, uns in Zukunft vom Gegenteil zu überzeugen.
Die irische Autorin Tana French berichtet in „Grabesgrün“ von einer solchen Begebenheit und löst in jedem Leser einen gewaltigen Schauer aus. Rob Ryan ist ein guter Ermittler. Gemeinsam mit seiner Kollegin Cassie Maddox hat er bisher jeden Fall gelöst. Doch der, zu dem die beiden diesmal gerufen werden, hat etwas Besonders an sich. In Knocknarre, einer Ausgrabungsstelle nicht weit von Dublin wurde eine Leiche gefunden. Zunächst sieht es nach einem durchgeführten Ritualmord aus, da die junge Tote auf einen Opferaltar gelegt wurde, doch um wirklich zu erfahren, was geschehen ist, müssen die Ermittler weiter ins dunkle Dickicht. Was niemand weiß, ist, dass Rob in jungen Jahren schon einmal hier war und eine grausame Erfahrung gemacht hat, die sein Leben für immer prägen sollte…
