Die Autorin Susan Elizabeth Phillips lebt mit ihrem Mann in einem Vorort von Chicago. Die beiden haben zwei erwachsene Söhne.
Phillips erobert mit ihren Werken regelmässig die Bestsellerlisten in Amerika, England und Deutschland. Der Durchbruch in Deutschland gelang ihr mit ihrer Reihe über Chicago-Stars-Footballhelden. Die Reihe besteht aus sieben Titeln, bei uns erschienen in den Jahren 1998 bis 2007. Mit Liebesromanen wie Bleib nicht zum Frühstück, Der und kein anderer oder Dieser Mann macht mich verrückt hat sie sich eine grosse Fangemeinde aufgebaut, bestehend hauptsächlich aus Frauen.
Desweiteren hat Phillips zahlreiche Einzelromane geschrieben. Ihr neuestes Werk, den Liebesroman Aus versehen verliebt (bei Blanvalet 2009, OT: What I did for love) könnt ihr euch hier anschauen.
Phillips kam nach eigener Aussage eher zufällig zum Schreiben. Nach der Geburt ihrer Söhne hatte sie viel Zeit zum Lesen, über die gelesenen Bücher tauschte sie sich regelmässig mit ihrer Freundin aus. Eines Tages beschlossen die beiden, einfach selbst ein Buch zu schreiben. Tatsächlich schafften es die beiden Freundinnen damals einen Verleger zu finden, der Roman The Copeland Bride erschien im Jahr 1983 (bei Dell) unter dem Pseudonym Justine Cole.
