Die deutsche Autorin von Frauenromanen wurde in der Nähe von Bergisch Gladbach geboren, wo sie auch heute noch mit Mann und Kind lebt. Kerstin Gier kam eher auf Umwegen zum Schreiben. Sie studierte zuerst Germanistik, Musikwissenschaften und Anglistik, wechselte dann zu Betriebspädagogik und Kommunikationspsychologie, worin sie auch ihr Diplom machte. Nach diversen Jobs begann Gier 1995 mit dem Schreiben ihres ersten Frauenromans Männer und andere Katastrophen (erschienen 1996 bei Lübbe). Der Titel wurde sogleich ein Riesenhit und mit Heike Makatsch in der Hauptrolle verfilmt. Seitdem hat die Autorin eine Reihe weiterer Frauenromane geschrieben, mit vielen davon landete sie in den Bestseller-Listen. Zu erwähnen wären hier vor allem Die Mütter-Mafia oder Für jede Lösung ein Problem (beides erschienen bei Lübbe).
Ihr Roman Das unmoralische Sonderangebot wurde im Jahr 2005 mit der DeLia für den besten deutschsprachigen Liebesroman ausgezeichnet. Seit 2007 ist Kerstin Gier auch in der Jury bei DeLia (Vereinigung deutschsprachiger Liebesroman-Autoren und –Autorinnen) vertreten.
